Barbara Colangelo
Mixed media, award winning artist Barbara Colangelo has been painting and drawing since childhood.
Barbara’s paintings are unique in texture and design and with her pen and
ink detail they are exclusive and well known. She works mainly with various
watermedia, rice and tissue papers and sometimes includes acrylic texture
and bits of collage. “Trying new materials and techniques is interesting and
enjoyable. I always keep my style identifiable.”
A resident of Sarasota Florida, she is originally from Elberon Park, New Jersey.
A graduate of the Newark School of Fine Art, Barbara designed for the Dan
River Textile Company in New York City creating designs for fabric, and
then taught art to elementary school students. In NJ, she owned her own art
gallery, “The Art Loft”, which provided a location for local New Jersey artists to
exhibit and sell their work.
Barbara’s paintings are exhibited and sold in local, national, and international
galleries, juried shows, and exhibitions. She has numerous paintings in private
collections worldwide, including the Mayor’s office in Vladimir, Russia. This
painting was chosen to be given to the Mayor as a gift from Sarasota Sister Cities

Barbara was five year president of Women Contemporary Artists from 2004
to 2009, a group of 150 creative women in Southwest Florida. She is now co-
chairman of the exhibition committee for the group. She is a member of the
Florida Watercolor Society, Art Center Manatee, Sarasota County Arts Council,
and Sarasota Sister Cities Association.
